Turned up a brief story about the life and restoration of a 1958 Edsel that ended up running the Baja 1000 in the early 1970s at Hemmings.com. (Spoiler alert: it didn’t do very well.) After being forgotten on Stroppe’s lot for a couple of decades, and hit by a train in the meantime, it was rebuilt, restored and tackled Baja again in 2010. (Spoiler alert: with similar results.) The hybrid of classic ’50s coupe, stock car chassis and off-road tires has an appealing look, and it’s been added to the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame outside of Las Vegas. Race hero or not, it makes us smile!
